As I was sitting up late one night waiting for McClain to wake up, get hungry and let me and Brianna know about his conumdrum, I got to thinking about my name-Patrick Wesley Willis. Now, if you’re really bored and have nothing better to do, a fun little activity is to google (or yahoo) yourself and see what kind of interesting information comes up. For my name, this is especially interesting.
You see, if you type in “Patrick Willis” into most major search engines, you come up with football player.
No, that’s not a mug of a person on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted List. That’s my namesake. While most of my friends know me as a middle class, average build white guy with bad eyesight and a keen wit, many more people know Patrick Willis as an All-Pro linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. According to Yahoo Sports, I have 107 tackles and 3 sacks this year. Not too shabby if I do say so my self.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to overtake his fame and notoriety through this blog and when people type in “Patrick Willis” they’ll come here instead of worrying about how many tackles I had last week.
For some, that might be the end of the “name game”, but that’s not the end of my name fascination. Wesley is a family middle name, and so I share it with my father and also my son. Wesley is quite a nice name I think, but just like Patrick Willis, Wesley Willis also has an interesting history. You may have heard of another Wesley Willis who had a very short, albeit eccentric music career.
Here’s an introduction.
Yep, that’ll go down in the annals of music history as a classic one day. No doubt.
So while I might not be as athletic, rich or as musically talented as some other Willises, it’s nice to at least know what they are talking about. Willis.
