Patrick and I had a busy weekend, painting, political stumping, and zip-lining. We enjoyed a bit of our small town Americana by attending NC State Senator Joe Sam Queen’s tailgate prior to the big football game on Friday night. In case your not from Western North Carolina please note that football is a big deal… Probably, the second most practiced religion behind Baptists. What’s an even bigger deal? Tuscola versus Pisgah. We have only two major high schools and the football rivalry is intense.
So what better time than to that to have a tailgate/Democratic Rally? It was a great event, that honestly made me proud to be an American. Seeing actual candidates who live (closer) to what actually happens reminds me how democracy can actually work. At least on the local level. You can see more pictures and the candidates that did come at the Haywood County Young Democrats’ facebook page.
Maybe it was the crisp fall air, freshly grilled hotdogs, or general festive feel, but it gave me hope for McClain’s future and made my heart swell with patriot (and black bear) pride. Plus, the home team won! Always a bonus.

Patrick "helping" give out candidates' stickers. Notice our friend is actually holding the stickers.

I'm sure he'll vote Republican just because we dragged him to events like this, but currently he's our young Democrat.
Disclaimer: No candidate had any knowledge of this blog post and frankly if they read this blog they may not want our endorsement. Sure, we’re democrats (hope you guessed that from the environmental rants) and would love you to vote for our favorite candidates, but what’s more important? Voting! Even if you pick someone we hate at least you supported Democracy. That’s a real mountain value.
