I felt like it was time to share one of my favorite stores, L.O.F.T. in Asheville, North Carolina. L.O.F.T. stands for Lost Objects Found Treasures (henceforth just Loft) and while I would love to share their website with you I am a bit embarrassed for them. Let’s just suffice to say that the website is just not at all representative of the store. Still want to see it? Fine click here. Then come right back and check out my pictures because the website just sucks.
Loft is kind of hard to explain. Here check out the storefront:
Yeah, there is a lot going on. I’m not suggesting you take this store carte blanche and put it in your house, but you will walk in and find a million ideas to add some fun to your space. Allow me to give you a “Loft situation”.
The Situation
- I send Patrick to Loft to buy out Aunt Sadie’s Tree in a Can Candle because he works a block over. (It is the best candle in the world, but that is a review for a different post)
- Get a phone call at work from Patrick: “I’m at Loft and they are still out of candles.” Me: “Well it is December, I’m not surprised.” Patrick: “I found a couch I like.” Me: “Where?” Patrick: “At Loft,” with inflection that I was an idiot. Where else would he find a couch? Me: “They have sofas at Loft? Well let me go put my cell phone where it will get some form of reception and text me a photo.”
- McClain and I end up driving to Asheville to measure vintage sofas that they now miraculously carry in Loft. Did I mention I went after work? And it was 21 degrees?
See that’s just how Loft works. You go to buy a candle, or book, or earrings, or lamp, or planter, or Mary and Jesus salt and pepper shakers and you end up buying a sofa. Or in our case probably a settee.
It’s bright, in your face, and I challenge anyone to go in there and not find at least one thing you like. We always go there to pick up gifts for the ungiftable. You know, the aunt/birth mother your just meeting for the first time/brother-in-law, that you not quite sure what to purchase. Well Loft will have something. We’ve purchased candles, soap, planters, books, etc. Plus every single out of town guest that we have drug there is enchanted by the craziness that is Loft. It just fits Asheville.
However, enough with the description let me give you a glimpse of some of our “finds” tonight.

Patrick posing on the settee we may buy, with a pile of books that told you how to argue with conservatives. Don't worry there was an additonal pile that told you how to argue with liberals and win.
By the way the last two photos are in the basement of Loft. All the awesomeness couldn’t be contained on one level.
Here are some pictures of light fixtures. I MUST make, do, or buy something along these lines. A glass holder that is also a chandelier! Thank about all the possibilities.

They also had a smaller one of these holding glass bottles? Vases? I forgot to fully check it out because my attention was pulled over to the next photo.

More random chandeliers... I totally missed the cute numbered planters while in the store. Those would be great for a a kitchen herb garden.
Patrick got my attention back on the floor by finding a practical item for our cramped bathroom.
Frankly, at this point McClain reached his limit of looking. Very soon touching would follow, and this is not a store where you want a 1 year old touching. I got a few more shots, but none that sum up Loft more than this:

Really I'm not even sure what is going on here, but I could totally hang a branch in The Boy's room or use and old window frame for a prop.
The next time your in Asheville take a few minutes or hours to check out Loft.
Contact Information
Located on 53 Broadway, Asheville, NC 28801. They are open 7 days a week from 10am-9pm (though slower seasons they sometimes close earlier). You can contact them at 828-259-9303.
Note: By the way, on all of our reviews the stores don’t pay us, have probably never heard of us, and most likely won’t appreciate being reviewed. The closest we came to a perk is that they will still honor a coupon from two years ago. Though this isn’t from our status as world class bloggers, they just have good customer service.
