Real Mountain Values started as a running joke between myself, Brianna Willis and my husband, Patrick. A certain politician ran a campaign that constantly discussed mountain values. To tell you the truth Patrick and I don't remember that much about the campaign other than every time we would see a sign or commercial we would discuss exactly what made up a mountain value... Shotgun weddings?

What About the Guys?!?

So if you’ve been reading Brianna’s posts the last month, you’ve probably noticed that there’s been a lot of estrogen thrown around here. There’s very little mention of guys wanting to decorate, or of us coming up with some trendy themed place-setting. Well, she’s probably right. Most guys couldn’t give a rat’s ass about those things. But, guys still do enjoy participating in some stuff like that, even though they may not admit it. So ladies/party-planners, today I’ve come up with a few ideas for your guy-friends when they come over so that you seem even cooler to them than they originally thought.

1. Monogrammed stuff. Guys like to see their names and/or initials scrawled across just about anything, so come up with a cool design and put it on something.  Make a small card of cardstock with their initials (in a cool font) on it for a place-setting marker.

Of course, it’s a bonus for everyone if the guys are in to drinking. Monogram a shot glass. Monogram a pint glass. Monogram a hip flask. Just remember, when in doubt, monogram. It makes everything instantly cooler.

2. Take-home Drinks. Hey, why not make a label that would fit over a beer label and give it to your guy-buddies for a little souvenir. You could make it funny, or serious, or whatever you want.  You could make it even more special by brewing the beer yourself, and making your own label. For example, when we’re having our annual Veterans’ Day Party in a few days, I’ll be giving my guy friends my 11/11/11 Ale. Sweet! (Actually I just made that up).

Nice!

3. Tools. Guys like something useful, things that they will be able to use again. For example, a few years ago I got a little telescopic magnet ‘pen’ that was extendable, so that I could reach things metallic that would inevitably fall into crevices.  You know how many times I used that thing to get my keys that fell between my car seat? More times than I can count, that’s how many. So think about some cool small tools to give-maybe a small pocketknife or something to that effect (that could be monogrammed. Hey!)

Instant Awesomeness. Boom.

4. Something Sports Related. A lot of parties/get-togethers are based around sports: The Super Bowl, March Madness, the Masters, the International Polo Championship, for example. So find out who your guy friends root for, (or who they hate), and make them little flags or some small memento to remember their favorite team with. If they don’t care about sports, make a memento with a picture of Charlie Sheen on it, so that they can always be ‘winning’.

Of course, these are just some general ideas. You’ll have to come up with the specifics based on your own guy friends. But maybe this will give you a few thoughts to think about for your next party. And think what a cool host you’ll be for letting your friends take home some awesome mementos to remember the party by!
