One thread you’ll notice if you read here long is that I am consistently completing tasks at the last minute. I loathe being late, but I can’t say I manage to get things done weeks in advance. As usual I needed a last minute Holiday recipe and ummm… Well last year I recommended my chocolate dipped pretzels, which, would have been wonderful IF I had reviewed my recipe. Yeah, I burned chocolate… again.
Since this happens a lot I have a fall back recipe. I think the recipe originally started with one I found in a magazine, but I have tweaked it

Tuesday we looked at the basics of a color wheel (Part I). Today we are going to jump right in and look at the theory used to select color schemes. Don’t despair if many of the colors we use today are a bit bright! We’ll touch on how to use the theories we learn and apply it to real life design next week.
A Full Color Wheel
To fully flesh out our color wheel we need to add tertiary colors. These colors are made from mixing the primaries and secondaries. For example:
red + orange = red-orange (such fancy names)
blue +

Yesterday we looked at the proper wording for formal invitations. Today comes the fun part, informal invitations. These are more often used for things like birthdays, dinner parties, and general events. They are much less structured and depending on the event can be quite humorous. To cover the informal invite you really need only be concerned with these basic questions:
Who: Who is having the event. If every guest already knows you then this information can be implied. For example, I didn’t list myself on my son’s second birthday invitations. Everyone we invited knows Patrick and I will be

Whether your event is a wedding, anniversary, or christening most formal invitations share a similar pattern. The wording can vary slightly but if you follow this general outline then you are sure to create a presentable formal invitation.
List the formal names of the hosts. Include honorifics such as Mr., Mrs., or Dr. Extend the invitation: “request the honor of your presence at” List the event: “the marriage of”, “the anniversary of” or “in honor of” List the recipients of the event. Exclude honorifics but consider including the middle name Creative portion: Here you can have a little fun such as “as

So if you’ve been reading Brianna’s posts the last month, you’ve probably noticed that there’s been a lot of estrogen thrown around here. There’s very little mention of guys wanting to decorate, or of us coming up with some trendy themed place-setting. Well, she’s probably right. Most guys couldn’t give a rat’s ass about those things. But, guys still do enjoy participating in some stuff like that, even though they may not admit it. So ladies/party-planners, today I’ve come up with a few ideas for your guy-friends when they come over so that you seem even cooler to them than

By Brianna, on October 30th, 2011 I wanted to thank everyone that has kept up with my 31 day challenge. While technically the last day is tomorrow, I’m doing my recap today so I can make a mood board for tomorrow.
Honestly, I did this challenge as a last minute prompt to get my butt out of the rut. Bad rhyming aside, I like to have a project to work on, but if left to my own devices I tend to well… get lazy. I was very surprised to find out that A) I finished the challenge and B) I still have thousands of event and

By Brianna, on October 29th, 2011 Yesterday we discussed ways to make event photos more fun and integrated into your event. However, what you do with those photos afterward is something that is rarely discussed. With social media being such an integral part of our daily lives we often don’t stop to think before we post photos of our parties online.
So how do you feel about photo etiquette?
First, I make sure that it is a photo someone would want for me to post. For example, you making a funny face is okay. You passed out with a bottle of wine in your hand ceased

By Brianna, on October 25th, 2011 Often we think of party favors as items that are given out at the end of a shower or wedding. This item acts as a thank you to the guest for attending and usually bringing a gift. To offer a different idea; try looking at a party favor as a small token that will allow the guest to remember the event long after the night has ended.
When you consider this concept, party favors can be small tokens of the affair and less demarcated as ‘favors’. It also allows you to come up with some unique party favor ideas.

By Brianna, on October 23rd, 2011 The first week of the 31 Day Challenge we spent time looking at the guest list and hosting tips. The second week we focused on decorations and the third week we talked about food. Need to catch up on the posts? You can see them all here.
I am starting the final week of the 31 Day Challenge and I would like to spend this week touching on the ‘extras’ for parties and events. Maybe party favors aren’t only for children’s birthdays? Do you forget to take pictures of your events? (I do) Perhaps a photo-booth area would be perfect

By Brianna, on October 22nd, 2011 All this writing about food got me thinking: How far would you go to accommodate your guests dietary needs?
Personally I was taught to ALWAYS think of the guest first when it comes to entertaining. However, I have to admit this attitude came before we had all kinds of dietary requirements. Raw food, hCG, veganism, vegetarianism…. The list goes on and on. Plus consider the increased number of food allergies; celiac disease, nut allergies, and lactose intolerance immediately come to mind.
How, as a host or hostess, do you take these needs into consideration?
Personally, I always try to keep
