Real Mountain Values started as a running joke between myself, Brianna Willis and my husband, Patrick. A certain politician ran a campaign that constantly discussed mountain values. To tell you the truth Patrick and I don't remember that much about the campaign other than every time we would see a sign or commercial we would discuss exactly what made up a mountain value... Shotgun weddings?

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 6-Evites versus Paper Invitations

paper-versus-evite

Our digital world offers many options for making social contacts.  Facebook, email, instant messaging, text messaging, cell phones, the list goes on and on for ways we can contact each other.  It is no surprise that party and event invitations went digital.  However, while technology offers us many options that improve our lives it also has drawbacks as well.

There really is no right answer to which is better; an Evite (which is a brand name but for the course of this post just consider it to mean a digital invitation)

Conversations from the Bungalow

While all of you are busy learning all sorts of crafty artsy projects from Brianna, I am going to have to represent the masculine face of RMV, so I’ m rolling out my out my own 31-day special program. I got the idea for the title last night as myself and Brianna were trying to reason with our almost-two-year-old. Well, needless to say it didn’t work, but it spawned quite possibly one of the greatest ideas of all time…Yes, I will be posting our ‘more colorful’ conversations from home (and probably abroad as well) and titling them ‘Conversations from the

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 5-Five Minute Place Settings

butterflies-hydrangea-place-setting

One of the things that often holds me back from entertaining is the feeling I need elaborate decorations.  Honestly, after I have managed to clean the house and corral the toys I have very little energy left to give a nice seasonal feel to the house.  So to prove to myself you can make some pretty place settings in no time I created:

5 Place Settings in 5 Minutes for under 5 Dollars

I used a placemats, napkins, and china I already had to make these place settings.  I figure most people own a neutral napkin and placemat they can

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 4-Sorting Guests in Excel

sort-by

As I discussed Sunday having your potential guests in a spreadsheet makes it easy to create invitations for all types of groups.  I’m going to quickly go over some of the ways you can easily sort your list so that you no longer have to think and flip through the old paper address book, hoping that you haven’t forgotten anyone important.

Once you have your guest sorted and selected you can hand write, send electronically, or mail merge your invitations.  There are a number of tutorials about how to set up mail merges and I have selected some of the

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 3-Harvest Party Inspiration

autumn-harvest-fall-inspiration

If you have been following along with my 31 Day Series then you know we have spent sometime organizing the guest list.  As soon as I decide who I’m inviting and what type of event it is going to be I start thinking decorations.  With the chill in the air I have a massive hankering for a harvest themed dinner party.

Since it is Monday and I like to start my week off inspired I put together a Fall and harvest themed mood board in case I actually get that dinner party together.  I happen to be one of those

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 2-Manage Your Guest List

spreadsheet

I’m going to make some assumptions today.  If you are reading this then you likely to enjoy entertaining, are my mother, and/or my husband.  Who am I kidding?  My husband is going to skim this at best.  If you do enjoy entertaining and do so on a semi-regular basis then the following setup may take a lot of work out of your event planning.  However, if you only do small events with the same folks then this might be overkill for you.

Going Digital

Spreadsheets; we all love to hate them.  Most Windows computers come with a basic edition of

Since it is day one of my 31 Day Challenge I thought I would start at the very beginning.  Which I have heard is a very good place to start.

Importance of Guests

Some might argue that a party is best planned around an event, but I say the best plans are laid around the guest list.

Example:

Event: First Birthday

Scenario 1: First birthday party with 20 close relatives only a few children

Scenario 2: First birthday party with 50 guests all parents and children from your child’s daycare

Same event but I bet

Goodness in a Jar

One of the seven wonders of the Modern World.

I thought I’d end the week on an extremely important subject that’s near and dear to my heart. Yes, that’s right, you’re going to read about my fixation on peanut butter, easily the world’s greatest concoction of goodness (outside of frothy goodness, of course) in the history of the world. Yeah, it’s that good. So that’s why I’m writing about it to you today.

First, I must admit, I’ve had this love affair for almost 30 years. I can’t remember when I had my first spoonful of peanut butter, it

Bring On The Immunities

McClain goes to Kindermusik once a week.  He started it a almost a year ago and seems to enjoy it.  Plus I looked it as a way to get him out with other kids since he stays with The Granny, Patrick, or me.  Of course anytime you put one or more kids in a room they socialize share germs.

Since he started this round of Kindermusik he has gotten two colds… in a month…  Guess who also has gotten two colds in a month? If you said Brianna you win a prize!  Of course the prize is a bunch of
