Real Mountain Values started as a running joke between myself, Brianna Willis and my husband, Patrick. A certain politician ran a campaign that constantly discussed mountain values. To tell you the truth Patrick and I don't remember that much about the campaign other than every time we would see a sign or commercial we would discuss exactly what made up a mountain value... Shotgun weddings?

A little Winter Refresher

I would like to call this photo "Beer Still Life No. 7"

Well, it’s been a while since I posted, but I’m finally back with another round from the Champion Brewery. Since it’s a bit cool this time of year, and since I’m a cheap bastard, I decided to get a lager recipe from the local brew store to try out. This was my first attempt at such a recipe, and I was very nervous how it was going to turn out. Thankfully, it’s as good as it looks:

I would like to call this photo "Beer Still Life No. 7".

You see, brewing lagers in the winter fits right

Home Goals 2012

Maybe brown and grey could work together?

Since it appears I am going to be incapacitated for a bit, I am rethinking my home goals for 2012.  I want to give myself enough to be motivated but not so much that it is overwhelming.  First though let us take a quick look at the layout of our bungalow:

Our floor plan created at floorplanner, com

Goal #1 Finish painting the “private” side of the house.

Currently the the public side considered the living, dining & kitchen areas.  They all flow from one to another (most of the doorways are either open or left open french doors) and

Herein I Cry

Sometimes life slings a few arrows your way, and this seems to be one of those weeks.

I have discovered in the last few months that one of my passions is decoration/decor blogging.  I have fun creating the tutorials, working on displays, and coming up with inspiration for my life and to share.  More enjoyably, I have really appreciated you, the readers, emailing, commenting, and connecting.

Because of YOU, I don’t want to disappoint the people that show up looking for new, original content on a regular basis, however, I may have to let you down for a few weeks.

An Amazing Post

So this is where there is supposed to be an amazing post with some amazing/inspiring/creative shiznit….

Have I mentioned I’m somewhere over 32 weeks pregnant?

I so want to whine, but I’m going to save that for my husband.  I just felt like utter crap this weekend (whine) and only managed to accomplish some more organization (whine).  Really we are down to cleaning out a pile in the office and doing a little upkeep in the bathroom closet and pantry.

Well…  If we are being entirely honest then we won’t discuss the basement, because that isn’t getting tackled until the

10 Ideas For Cheap Organization and Storage Solutions

10-cheap-organization-solutions

Below are 10 ideas to cheaply organize your home.  Since the object of organization is not to buy stuff (As discussed on Wed.) to organize I have been trying to find ways to repurpose objects I already have hanging around.  Plus I threw in a few cheap and/or creative ideas that might require getting a few things, but damn they look good and organized.

In no particular order:

1. Single Socks

Get rid of single socks (you know the ones left behind after the sock monster eats one) and make a holder to keep your wrapping/craft paper from

How To Make A Mounted Spice Rack From Jars

jar-spice-rack-detail

During my organization frenzy of 2012 I am pretty excited to tackle the spice mess in my pantry.  I created a mounted spice rack using old baby food jars.  Want to learn how?  See the following tutorial on creating your own spice rack.  Bonus organization: I not only cleaned up the spices but I used these random jars I refused to throw away.

Necessary Materials

Jars with lids (Labels removed… If you want it to be aesthetically pleasing)

Wooden board or Shelf

Wood Screws

Drill

Step 1 Painting the Lids (Not shown because spray paint comes with directions)

Top 5 Organization Ideas: From the Winter Purge Research of 2012

top-5-organization

I find in life that my love of perfection and research lead me to read a lot about topics while actually doing…  Well let’s just say the doing leaves much to be desired.

Secure in my knowledge that I was going to actually make a resolution about organization for 2012 I started a week early AND I dove right in.  I had some code yellow areas (as described by Rants from Mommyland) that were just begging to be tackled to make room for the ginormous amount of crap necessary for the survival of an American newborn.

I’m used to this

The Obligatory 2012 Resolution Post

In 2010 I wrote about how I don’t, “Do resolutions,” then promptly reversed my position the next year and made an attempt to change myself into an awesome saint of a person.  I bet you can guess how that worked out…

Though I can say I didn’t buy from Walmart for a full year.  Booyah to me for doing one resolution!  I guess if I really look back at 2011 then I’m being hard on myself.  Sure I didn’t become an urban homesteader but I did rethink a lot of our actions and took more intention in my life.

I’m

So here you go world: Merry Christmas from Real Mountain Values… Venus Flytrap Style.
