Real Mountain Values started as a running joke between myself, Brianna Willis and my husband, Patrick. A certain politician ran a campaign that constantly discussed mountain values. To tell you the truth Patrick and I don't remember that much about the campaign other than every time we would see a sign or commercial we would discuss exactly what made up a mountain value... Shotgun weddings?

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 30-Recap

I wanted to thank everyone that has kept up with my 31 day challenge.  While technically the last day is tomorrow, I’m doing my recap today so I can make a mood board for tomorrow.

Honestly, I did this challenge as a last minute prompt to get my butt out of the rut.  Bad rhyming aside, I like to have a project to work on, but if left to my own devices I tend to well… get lazy.  I was very surprised to find out that A) I finished the challenge and B) I still have thousands of event and

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 29-Photo Etiquette

Yesterday we discussed ways to make event photos more fun and integrated into your event.  However, what you do with those photos afterward is something that is rarely discussed.  With social media being such an integral part of our daily lives we often don’t stop to think before we post photos of our parties online.

So how do you feel about photo etiquette?

First, I make sure that it is a photo someone would want for me to post.  For example, you making a funny face is okay.  You passed out with a bottle of wine in your hand ceased

Conversations from the Bungalow

The RMV team was out of town last weekend, and so you had the terrible fate of not being able to enjoy any Conversations from the Bungalow. Well, we’re back, and so without further ado, here comes the Convos. Enjoy!

On our toddler:

Patrick: “We have a Keanu Reeves toddler.”

McClain: “Whoa. Whoa. WHOA!”

Patrick: “We should just call him Neo.”

On Engligh Knights/Nature Show Narrators:

Brianna: “Maybe McClain needs some Attenborough. He is British, isn’t he?”

Patrick: “That’s why they call him Sir David Attenborough.”

Brianna: “Well, he could be from Ireland.”

Patrick: “Except he doesn’t sound

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 28-Event Photos

frame-wall

If you have gone to all the trouble to have a party remember to get some photos of the event.  I love to get candids, but usually I get so involved in the moment I lay the camera down and forget I was going to take photos.  I consider this a necessary evil because I can’t really get into the party if I am stuck behind the camera, but I hate when I miss getting a shot of a guest or forget to record anything completely.

The solution?  Make photos part of the event!

Consider any Hollywood event; what is

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 27-Non-Dorky Icebreakers

ink-blot-coasters

I have never been a fan of the ‘icebreaker’ games required at a lot of corporate events.  It seems like the forced mirth just doesn’t fit a business function.  Plus let us be honest, most of them seem really dorky or cheesy.

However, I can see the value of trying to create a common thread for strangers to start a conversation.  As I discussed in my hosting 101 post, the host’s main goal is to put guests at ease and facilitate conversation.  Certainly introducing them is the first step but what if there was a way to fit in an

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 26-5 DIY Party Favor Tutorials

charms

Usually I like to post a DIY tutorial or project on Wednesday… and not someone else’s.  However, I’m going to have to plead leniency.  Excuses fall under out of town this weekend, lots of homework, blah blah.  However, I have selected 5 party favor tutorials that would work for a variety of occasions from children’s birthdays to Christmas.  These should give you a nice DIY fix for the week.

Children’s Birthday: Paper Pinwheels

Halloween or Mostly Female Event: Bath Oils

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 25-Unique Party Favors

Often we think of party favors as items that are given out at the end of a shower or wedding.  This item acts as a thank you to the guest for attending and usually bringing a gift.  To offer a different idea; try looking at a party favor as a small token that will allow the guest to remember the event long after the night has ended.

When you consider this concept, party favors can be small tokens of the affair and less demarcated as ‘favors’.  It also allows you to come up with some unique party favor ideas.

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 24-Shimmery Halloween Inspiration

shimmer-halloween

I’m sure that if you are having a Halloween party this year you have probably already thought about the decorations.  However, I thought I might provide a bit of inspiration for those of us that might…ahem…wait till the last minute.  Enjoy this orange free and shimmery Halloween inspiration.

Instead of the traditional black and orange Halloween consider black with shimmery green and silver.  Mix in skeletal bones and silver moon symbols as accents.  Think absinthe cocktails, dark lace, and ravens to set a Gothic-sophisticated Halloween.

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 23-Event Extras

The first week of the 31 Day Challenge we spent time looking at the guest list and hosting tips.  The second week we focused on decorations and the third week we talked about food.  Need to catch up on the posts? You can see them all here.

I am starting the final week of the 31 Day Challenge and I would like to spend this week touching on the ‘extras’ for parties and events.  Maybe party favors aren’t only for children’s birthdays?  Do you forget to take pictures of your events? (I do) Perhaps a photo-booth area would be perfect

31 Days of Party & Event Planning: Day 22-How Far Would You Go?

All this writing about food got me thinking:  How far would you go to accommodate your guests dietary needs?

Personally I was taught to ALWAYS think of the guest first when it comes to entertaining.  However, I have to admit this attitude came before we had all kinds of dietary requirements.  Raw food, hCG, veganism, vegetarianism….  The list goes on and on.  Plus consider the increased number of food allergies; celiac disease, nut allergies, and lactose intolerance immediately come to mind.

How, as a host or hostess, do you take these needs into consideration?

Personally, I always try to keep
